When you take a break, go on vacation, or set aside “quiet” time are you truly present? Or is your brain still at work? Going a million miles an hour…

To get the full benefit of down time you must shut your brain D-O-W-N. Otherwise you are still burning the midnight oil, just from a different location.

Shutting down and taking time for yourself is essential to being productive in your normal work day. You’ll get tasks completed more quickly and easily when fresh and energized. If you find your mind working overtime follow these 3 easy steps to get present in 5 minutes or less:

  1. Take a few deep cleansing breaths. Light a scented candle or apply essential oils and breathe them in.
  2. Cycle through your five senses. Pay attention to what you see, smell, hear, taste, and touch in your present surrounding.
  3. Mentally release anything “work” related and allow the current moment IN. I like to put whatever is on my mind in an imaginary “box” that I set aside and can open later.

Set aside time in your Best Planner Ever, for self care or me-time. There’s a line dedicated to it every day because it’s THAT important.

Happy Planning!
