What is it that sets the most successful people apart from those who fail?

Are they just more talented, smart, or gifted?

Um….NO!

The critical ingredient to success many people miss is Accountability.  Now you may be thinking, “I get my stuff done just fine on my own thank you!”  That certainly may be true, but accountability partners and groups offer many benefits over and above just getting stuff done. Here are 7 Reasons Why Everyone Needs Accountability.

#1 – Increased Success

When you go it alone your chances of success are 43%. When you have an accountability partner or group you chances increase to 95%! That’s a big difference between success and failure simply by surrounding yourself with others dedicated to your higher achievement.

#2 – Improved Performance

Accountability groups naturally raise the standards of your own performance. Let’s face it a little friendly competition can go a long way. Knowing that all members of a group are working towards a common goal can help every member stay on track to achieve – and see better performance both individually and as a group.

#3 – Get Encouragement

We all need encouragement along the way. At some point you will get discouraged or have a set back and want to give up. Your accountability crew can help you see past momentary failure and refocus on the bigger picture. Having somebody pick you up, dust off your britches, and set you back on the path is a real gift. Women entrepreneurs can often feel alone or misunderstood by their family and friends (even well meaning ones) but these groups can offer other people in your life who “get you”.

#4 – Be Challenged

A true accountability partner will lovingly challenge you and not accept excuses. That’s why a paid group can often work better than free groups or friends. It’s just too easy for our loved ones to let us off the hook or peers who don’t have any real “skin” in the game. These groups will surround you with people who care enough about your success not to let you flake out. Yes, it can be tough but that’s how you get the great results.

#5 – New Ideas & Inspiration

Accountability groups can give you ideas and inspiration. When you are too close to a project it can be difficult to see outside of it. Having a fresh perspective can help shorten your path or open up new areas to explore. Plus, you can also benefit from the combined knowledge and experience of the group saving yourself hours or even weeks of time and avoid “trial & error” mistakes.

#6 – Scheduled Check In’s

Groups meet on a regular basis. When you know you’ll be asked to present your progress to the group it’s a tremendous motivation. Scheduled meetings require you to complete your action steps in a timely manner so you are always moving your goals forward.

#7 – Learn from the Best

When you choose a group led by somebody who has accomplished what you are striving for, you can shorten your own path to success tremendously. Based on your specific goals, choose your accountability group carefully so it does not become the “blind leading the blind”.

If you are not sure where to go to find an accountability group, try using Google or seek out women’s organizations. Many professional coaches (like me!) offer these types of groups as well. Check out our Coaching Circle.
